The essay must start off with an introductory paragraph in which you will present your thesis. Choose relevant and specific examples that support your thesis within the body of the essay. The bulleted questions must be answered within the body of the essay and organized in a logical way. Provide your conclusions in the closing paragraph. The bulk of this essay should be based on the assigned primary sources, but it would be wise to utilize the textbook as a resource too.
The use of any other sources beyond the assigned primary sources and the textbook is not expected. If other sources are used to gather information, then they must be documented with in-text citations and a works cited page. If information (not just quotations) is used from a source that is not documented, then that is plagiarism.
The essay should be at least 750 words in length and written in formal English, using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Its preferable that the essays be submitted via Blackboard, but e-mailed submissions will be acceptable too. Essay #1 is due at 11:59pm on September 8. Late essays will be reduced by 2 points for each day that they are late.
