Current events are graded on the following three categories:
• Relevance & Content (15 points): Is the current event relevant to our class? Does the student
evidence a reasonable understanding of the issues in the current event? Additional research may
be required to achieve this goal.
• Judgment & Originality (15 points): Is the student able to go beyond the facts of the event,
evidencing the ability to state and support independent professional thought, judgment, and
analysis?
• Quality (20 points): The quality of the presentation (e.g., does the student speak clearly, look at
the audience, not stammer, etc.). Using PowerPoint, dressing professionally, and/or providing
handouts may help you achieve this goal.
Note: Conspicuously indicate if you have done additional research by using identifying words and
phrases. For example, use a phrase such as “My additional research…about…showed…”
Note: Conspicuously indicate that you have generated original judgment or analysis by using identifying
words and phrases. For example, phrases such as “In my opinion…,” and “In addition to the article I…”
show that you have gone above and beyond the text of your current event.
Note: Conspicuously indicate how you relate the current event to our class by using the following, or a
similar phrase: “This current event relates to our class because…” Be specific and comprehensive in
